Google Chrome’s Security Warning Will Show “Not Secure”

In October 2017, Google launched it’s updated Chrome Browser, Version 62. Websites without SSL certificates now show a Google Chrome security warning of “Not Secure” in the URL bar. This warning label is shown on any website that requests data on an HTTP (not secure) page.

If your website currently runs without SSL certificates, this may deter potential users from visiting your site.

Google states, “Passwords and credit cards are not the only types of data that should be private. Any type of data that users type into websites should not be accessible to others on the network, so starting in version 62 Chrome will show the “Not secure” warning when users type data into HTTP sites.”

This new version and updated feature of Google Chrome will influence a user’s behavior when inputting data, personal information, or any type of payment on a website. It is very important if you have an e-commerce site that you are using secure SSL certificates. This means that if your website is not using secure SSL certificates, users will be warned that your site is not secure. This could influence users to exit your website completely.
